Elizabeth "Liz" Horning

Elizabeth Horning has been an artist for most of her life. She was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and graduated in 1965 from the Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in Painting. As an undergraduate, she was a recipient of the Royal Bailey Farnum Scholarship as well as Ford & Carnegie Foundation grants to study art in Italy. After college, she worked as an art teacher in New Hampshire, until moving to Phoenix in 1973. After that, she worked as a decorative artist, illustrator, advertising artist and art director, before joining the Phoenix Art Group in 1986, where she was able to work full-time at painting, and to develop the style of floral painting that she is known for now. Through PAG, her work was distributed nationwide, and she began an association with the publishing company Grand Image, Ltd., that continues to this day. In 2002, she left Phoenix for the great weather and gorgeous scenery of Southern Arizona. Since leaving the Phoenix Art Group, she has shown in galleries from Carmel to Santa Fe, and for 19 years was represented in Arizona by the May Galleries in Scottsdale.
