Arthur Brooks
I began painting in 1989 when I lived in Waynesboro, Georgia. At that time, I focused on churches and the nearby impressive ante-bellum mansions. The next year I moved to Boone, North Carolina and showed my work at the Jones House and local restaurants. I specialized in portraits of silent movie stars. In 1995, I moved to Spartanburg, South Carolina and showed my work at the art center, where I was on the commission. In 1998 I moved to Charleston and put my painting aside for more lucrative endeavors.
In 2018 I moved to Bisbee and by 2023 I had resumed painting. In March of that year, I joined the Subway Art Gallery at 43 Brewery Gulch in Bisbee. In November 2023, I joined the Huachuca Art Association in Sierra Vista, the Endeavor Gallery in Benson, the Douglas Art Association, and the Gallery of Dreams in St. David.

In April of this year, I enjoyed a featured exhibit of my work (with Carol Chandler who does landscapes in pastel on suede) at the Subway Gallery. Also this year, I have shown my work in Galley 40, on Main Street in Bisbee, Metro 2 Gallery on Bisbee Road in Bisbee, and am currently the featured artist in Tachos Restaurant (Bisbee). I have an exhibit with Carol Chandler at the Douglas Gallery which will run for the month of October. Looking ahead, I have a featured exhibit in April 2025 at the Subway Gallery with watercolorist Diane Given Hayes.
I would say that I am a Modern Realist/Expressionist and am influenced by painters Edward Hopper and Georgia O’Keefe. I favor still-lifes and animals, as you can see by the attached examples of my work, but I also paint people.
